Santa Clara County Bar Association Fee Arbitration Committee is presenting a free CLE approved seminar “Basic Fee Arbitration Training.” The seminar is intended to acquaint attorneys with the fee arbitration process and present the essential functions of fee arbitrators.

This seminar is relevant to all practitioners, as all of us at some point face a client disagreement over billed fees, which may result in a mandatory attorney-client fee arbitration. The program is an excellent training for new fee arbitrators and a refresher for our seasoned colleagues. We will follow with the Advanced Fee Arbitration Training in March 2022, date TBD.

Established around 1990, the SCCBA Fee Arbitration Program provides a relatively fast and inexpensive procedure for resolution of attorney-client fee disputes outside of the court system. It is considered one of the most effective and best run fee arbitration programs in California.

Serving as a fee arbitrator is an excellent way to experience quasi-judicial functions, gain a deeper understanding of attorney's obligations, ethical duties and best practices with regard to billing, and engage with and give back to the community of lawyers and consumers of legal services. Fee arbitrators are volunteers, and generally hear two to three cases a year.
