We are proud to present our Ninth Annual SCCBA Women Lawyers’ Symposium. After a 1-year hiatus due to COVID-19, we are excited to gather again for a hybrid in-person and zoom Women Lawyers’ Symposium. In this year of the important confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson as the first female black Supreme Court Justice, as well as the seismic shift in the legal landscape for women in the wake of a pending Supreme Court decision regarding Roe v. Wade, we are proud to kick off our event with a distinguished panel of prominent black female legal powerhouses to discuss “Creating a Culture of Belonging: Where We Have Been, Where We Are Going, and What We Are Doing About It.” The panel will be moderated by a woman familiar to our event and issues facing female lawyers, Crystal Riggins, General Counsel of Aeris Communications. Panelists include Justice Teri Jackson, Justice of the California First Appellate District; Deborah Moss West, Esq., Executive Director of the Non-profit Katherine and George Alexander Community Law Foundation; and Monique D. Jewett-Brewster, Esq., Shareholder of Hopkins & Carley. As always, our program will also include breakout sessions addressing skills and issues of particular interest to our female bar. This year we have included an In-Person only, breakout session led by Lisa Stotlar, an experienced career counselor, who will teach attendees How to Utilize the Art and Science of Negotiation so they can confidently ask for and receive the salary, title, and benefits they deserve. In addition, our very own CEO and General Counsel of SCCBA will tap into her lived experience as a bi-racial, bi-sexual, and multi-cultural woman to deepen our understanding of privilege, microaggressions, and structures designed to withhold equity—and take our rightful place as agents of change. | |
